Containment Structure Figure 13.2 summarizes the overall containment structure of a WSDL document. The structure has a top element called definitions, which is shown in dark gray in the figure. All the elements that correspond to the abstract interface description are shown in medium gray, whereas the elements that correspond to the implementation part of the WSDL description are shown in light gray. The structure has tree-like hierarchy. The figure also shows how the abstract port type containment structure has an equivalent binding containment structure. In other words, the structure under the portType element looks identical to the containment tree underneath the binding element. Each binding related to a distinct port type maps a concrete protocol implementation to this port type. In addition to this structure, there are associations between different elements that are established through the use attributes and their values. Instant messaging is another good example where a conversation is in place, albeit the conversation is in text form. A delay between responses is acceptable given the nature of instant messaging and the culture behind it. If a reply is not received for several minutes, the conversation does not end.
